Christmas trees originated from Germany.

The custom of the Christmas tree developed in early modern germany in 16th and possibly 15th century, first it was decorated with edible things and lighted by candle. Martin luthar who is said to have first added lighted candles to Christmas tree.

In 1829 the diarist Greville , visiting Panshanger country house, describes three small Christmas trees “such as is customary in Germany” which Princess Lieven had put up.
